Horse Bolo Tie Sterling Silver Native American Handmade Sam Gray

Horse bolo tie is Native American handmade of sterling silver by renowned Navajo silversmith Sam Gray.  Native American designs represent the healing powers of the Medicine Horse (see description below).  Handmade bolo is made of heavy gauge sterling silver.  The designs were hand-carved using a jeweler's saw and soldered over a solid silver back. Bolo is slightly domed from the back and the background is textured and oxidized to highlight the Native American designs.  The dark background is burned into the silver and will not fade, chip or peel.  Handmade 8 ply leather tie has an open weave back for comfort and the handmade clasp makes it easy to adjust and stays firmly in place.

How was it made? Native American horse bolo tie was handmade using the overlay technique. Navajo silversmith Sam Gray uses heavy gauge sterling silver so the designs are prominent and the reliefs are deep. The designs are hand-cut using a jeweler's saw. The remaining sheet of silver, or negative design, is then soldered to the bottom sheet. The silver bolo is then hand-stamped, the background is textured and oxidized and the silver is polished to a shine.  Silver bolo tips and accents were also handmade of heavy gauge sterling silver.
